Runner & Race Information


Application Procedure:

  • The race is limited to 750 runners. 
  • When you register, you will be asked if you need a parking space.  If you will be riding with another runner or walking into the park, please do not register for a parking space.  We ask this so we can manage the primary and overflow lots.  
  • Runners under 16 years of age must be accompanied
  • ALL RUNNERS MUST BE ABLE TO FINISH IN 2 HOURS AND 45 MINUTES OR LESS. Please do not register if you cannot complete a half marathon in two hours and forty-five minutes or less as road closures will reopen and aid stations will close based on this time constraint.  This is approximately a 12:30 pace.   You need to factor in the terrain and elevation of the course when determining if this is the race for you.  
  • BE SURE TO READ ALL “RUNNER INFORMATION” PRIOR TO REGISTERING. ALL REGISTRATIONS ARE FINAL WITH NO REFUNDS, TRANSFERS OR DEFERRALS.
  • Online Registration is now open. Online registration will close on Monday, December 5th or once 750 runners have registered, whichever occurs first. 
  • Once online registration closes, there is no additional opportunity to register.  

Registration fees:

  • Now - September 1:  Super Early Bird $50.00!
  • September 2 - October 15:  $60.00
  • October 16 - November 15:  $70.00
  • November 16 - December 4: $80.00
  • A standard processing fee of $1.25 plus 6.75% will be added during the online registration.
  • Online registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 4h or when field is filled.
  • There is no in-person or race day registration.

Runner Amenities:

  • All runners will wear a chipped bib.
  • All runners will receive a long-sleeve performance Holiday Half t-shirt.  
  • All runners will receive a fleece blanket.
  • All runners will receive a race packet stuffed with coupons, brochures, and giveaways.
  • All runners will have the opportunity to download free photos of the finish.
  • All runners are invited to participate in the post-race festival and vendor expo.
Timing & Awards  
Overall winners will receive gift certificates valid at Metro Run & Walk.  Overall winner's results are not calculated in the age group awards.
                - $200 gift certificate:  1st overall male & female 
                - $150 gift certificate:  2nd overall male & female 
                - $100 gift certificate:  3rd overall male & female 

First place male & female in the following age groups will receive $50 gift certificates valid at Metro Run & Walk.  Second place male and females in these age groups will receive at $35 gift certificate valid at Metro Run & Walk.

Course Amenities:

  • There will be ample number of porta-potties at the start/finish and along the route.  
  • Water and electrolytes will be provided approximately every 2 miles along the route.
  • We'll keep the course interesting and fun with holiday decorations along the route.  

Packet Pickup:


Join us at packet pick-up to get into the holiday spirit:

  • When: (3 days available) Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m, Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Where: Metro Run & Walk located at: 7261 Commerce Street, Springfield VA 22150. 
  • Please note that there will be a very limited 1-hour packet pick-up on the morning of the race from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. sharp. It is strongly recommended that all runners go to early packet pick-up.  Once packet pick-up closes at 8:30 a.m. there is no further opportunity to obtain the bib or packet.
  • Pick up your packet at Metro Run & Walk on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and you'll be entered in a drawing for a free pair of shoes, a new outfit, a pair of Tifosi sunglasses, or other fantastic giveaways.

Registration Confirmation

  • Registrants will receive confirmation via e-mail after registering. Please enter your email address correctly when you register! All confirmed on-line registrations will be posted on the confirmation page within one month of the race.
  • Runners instructions will be e-mailed to registered runners on Thursday, December 7th. Again, please be sure to provide your correct e-mail address when registering as that is the address that will be used to deliver runner instructions.
  • The same information will be posted on this site by the time the mailing occurs.

Getting to the start:

  • The start and finish is at Wakefield Park -- 8100 Braddock Road Annandale, Virginia.
  • Primary parking is in the lots located by the ballfields.  Overflow parking is in the Audrey Moore RECenter parking lot.
  • If you park in the overflow lot, please park as far from the RECenter as you can to respect the RECenter patrons.
  • Please note that we will start this race exactly at 9:00 a.m. so please be on time.
  • Please arrive at least one hour before the race start in order to park, make your way to the start area, and hydrate before the race. The gun goes off at 9:00 a.m. sharp!
  • The bag drop will be near the start/finish area.. Bags will be provided to all runners at packet pick-up. Simply use this bag and write your bib number on both sides of the bag and we’ll have it waiting for you after you cross the finish line. 
At the Start:
  • All runners must be in the start corrals no later than 8:45 a.m. to facilitate a smooth and punctual 9:00 a.m. start:
  • Pace signs will be visible in the starting area and runners are encouraged to seed themselves appropriately within each pace group.
  • Entry into the corrals will be strictly enforced to facilitate the safest start possible and to ensure that only registered runners are in the start area.
  • Use of headphones during the race is strongly discouraged.
  • Pets, strollers, bicycles, rollerblades or any other wheeled devices of any kind are prohibited from the course.

During the race:

  • Please go to the Course Details page for a detailed description of the course.
  • Please show respect to the public who may be out enjoying the parks during the Holiday Half.
  • Where runners will be on the road, we will have a runner's lane as well as a vehicle lane. 
  • In the event of an emergency where emergency medical vehicles must cross the course, runners will be briefly stopped to facilitate that vehicle’s passage.
  • Please be aware of the course marshals and police officers on the course and follow their instructions at all times.
  • The course will be very closely monitored at several points with teams of course monitors. 
  • Runners must have their bib numbers visible at all times.
  • The race is run through an area of exceptional natural beauty, so please make use of the many trash bins along the course to deposit your used gel packs and water cups. Even tossing your cup to within a few feet of the trash bins will greatly assist the post-race clean-up effort.
  • To allow safe passage for all half marathoners regardless of their pace, please do not run more than two abreast during the race. 
  • Please be aware of your fellow runners when pausing at an aid station of any type.
  • Always run on the right and pass on the left.
  • If you must stop or slow down appreciably, move beyond the last water/fluid table at the station and step to the side.
  • Please do not impair the momentum of the runners behind you when entering the aid stations, as many of them may choose not to stop or slow for the station.

After the race:

  • Medical support and massage therapists will be located a short distance from the finish line.
  • There will be a variety of post-race food and drink stations.
  • The awards ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. promptly.  Winners need not be present to collect their awards.  All awards not picked up at the race will be mailed to the winners.
  • We have invited vendors to setup tables and share information about their products and services.

Post Race Banquet:

  • You wprked for it!  After the race, enjoy pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, and bread.
